One way to prevent dryer vent fires is to make sure that your dryer is installed correctly. You should always have an experienced, licensed electrician perform any electrical work around the dryer.  Always clean the lint trap after each load even if you are using a new dryer vent.

Also, ensure that you clean your dryer vent once every year and If you suspect a problem it might be a plugged dryer vent if you have to run it multiple times.  It also can be a problem with the dryer due to the plugged vent in which, they may be able to recommend a qualified repairman.

Dryer vent fires are most often associated with electrical fires caused by faulty wiring, plugged dryer vents, or a faulty appliance. It is more likely that this type of dryer fire will happen when the vent is not properly attached to the exhaust system of the dryer or plugged.

For example, in some models of washers, there will be two vents; one to take in hot air from the heating mechanism, and one to expel the heated air out through the venturi. When the two are not properly connected, it is easy for the hot air from the heating element to escape and then condense back into the dryer air chamber causing a fire. There are a few other potential causes such as a faulty flue or blown out hose pipe that can cause vent fires.
